Estate Grounds & Open Spaces

Room To Breathe

Nearly 600 properties, and a great deal of green space

Netherne-on-the-Hill is home to nearly 600 properties, and for a village of that size, the amount of green open space available to residents is quite something. What you find here goes well beyond a few patches of grass between houses.

The main open ground

The most expansive of these spaces forms a broad sweep of open ground running behind Lordswood House, Anthony House and the Villas. It is a generous, open stretch that gives the village much of its breathing room, and it is where you will find most of the outdoor sporting and recreational facilities the estate has to offer.

What you'll find across the grounds

The cricket field and pavilion at Netherne-on-the-Hill

Cricket

The cricket ground is one of the estate's real gems. Salfords Cricket Club use Netherne as their second home, bringing both junior and senior cricket to the village throughout the spring and summer months, with the season culminating in the Netherne Village Cup.

Whether you are a cricket enthusiast or simply someone who enjoys watching the game in a beautiful setting, the ground is a wonderful asset.

Football

The Netherne-side football pitch is available for residents to use, offering a well-kept space for those who want to get a game together. For smaller or junior games there are additional pitches on the old bowling green, conveniently close to the seating area of the cricket pavilion.

The play park

The play park offers a range of equipment for children up to the age of 14, and all equipment is maintained and formally inspected twice a year to make sure it remains safe and in good condition.

The two tennis courts at Netherne-on-the-Hill, one of which is also used for pickleball

Tennis and pickleball

The estate's tennis facilities are managed as part of Netherne Leisure Centre, run by Total Fitness on behalf of NML. Two tennis courts are available to residents, one of which is also marked out for pickleball, and coaching is available for those who want to develop their game.

Leisure centre membership, which includes access to the courts, is included within your NML service charge if you are an eligible property owner.

Pickleball equipment can be hired from the leisure centre.

Off Woodplace Lane

A place of quiet remembrance

In respect and memory of the patients and staff buried at the Hospital Cemetery off Woodplace Lane, NML maintains the grounds. We have also made the cemetery more accessible to pedestrians via private farmland, so that family members and anyone wishing to visit can do so in peace.
